Tickling Tuesday!

Okay... thought I'd try to do a regular post of exerpts of Riley's Gift.

When Wade turned the headlights off, darkness enveloped the Mustang. The clock on the dash gave off just enough light to see her surroundings. She tried to look back through her peripheral vision to see what Don and Stacey were doing. No use, she couldn’t see anything. It didn’t take long to hear what they were doing. Oh my Gosh. How could Stacey do this to me? Okay, breathe, don’t panic.
The windows fogged up from the heat in the backseat. Wade and Riley each cracked their windows as awkward silence lingered between them. Riley opened her mouth and swallowed “So, um, nice car…”
Wade turned his entire body towards her; the clock light gave his eyes an evil glow. “Thanks.”

This guy is so creepy, how can Stacey think he’s cute?

“Check this out.” Wade pushed the power button on the dash, music erupted as he showed off the speakers.
Riley racked her brain for something else to talk about, trying to ignore the noises coming from the back seat. Wade put the bottle he’d been drinking from between his legs and leaned his head back, closing his eyes.
Maybe he’ll fall asleep and leave me alone.
Wade turned up the radio, and then turned around and spoke to Don.  It was meant as a whisper, but Riley heard every word.
 “Dude, what should I do?”
Don chuckled under his breath. “Wade, come on, just put your arm around her and kiss her.”
What! Oh no. Riley’s eyes grew big and her heart pounded in her chest.
He is not kissing me, he is not touching me. What am I gonna do?
Wade turned back around and sat down; he put his head in his hands and sat still for a moment.
Think of something to say, think.
He turned around again and continued to whine. “I can’t, I don’t know how man.”
Oh thank you, thank you … please just turn around, start the car and let’s get out of here. Please
“Dude, I’m gonna slug you. Just do it.”
It’s your own fault. You put yourself in this situation. Maybe this is what I deserve. Then, as if on cue, she heard the words again.  Riley you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to, it’s that simple. – I don’t want to be here. I wanna go home.
Riley clutched her purse in one hand, released her seatbelt with the other. Unlocked the car door, and rested her hand on her leg, ready to reach for the handle.
Wade sat forward and hugged the steering wheel, banging his forehead against it. He took a deep breath and blew it out, then he sat back and rubbed the palms of his hands down his legs.
With her eyes wide open she prayed for courage. Wade moved toward her in slow motion, his arm reaching behind her shoulders.  Riley clutched the door handle and pushed as hard as she could. Barely escaping Wade’s grasp, she flung the door open and thrust herself out.
The cold breeze blew through her hair as she made her way toward the park. Tears burned her eyes. “I can’t believe this is happening to me.”
